FAQs:
Medication
Do You Prescribe Medication?
No, I am not a medical doctor. Many of my clients find medication to be helpful, but many of them also progress well in therapy without it. If you want to be evaluated for psychiatric medication, either contact your primary care physician or a psychiatrist. If you are already taking medication, I can coordinate care with your doctor.
What if My Therapist Thinks I May Need Medication?
My professional training allows me to treat you using therapeutic skills. There are times when a medication referral is warranted. If I believe that medication might be helpful, we will discuss a referral to a health professional who is trained in working with emotional and behavioral issues, most often a psychiatrist. As with other aspects of treatment, it is your choice whether or not to accept a referral for a medication evaluation.
